CRIME:Kick Away Crime 12 persons arrested on vandalism, armed robbery, car snatching charges

 The police commissioner, Abia State, Mr Leye Oyebade, has revealed
the arrest of at least 12 people in connection with criminal activities,
such as vandalism, armed robbery and car snatching.

Making the disclosure while speaking to newsmen today, September 14, he said
three suspected vandals, identified as Obirinachi Chijioke, Chigoziem Okereke and
Ikemsinachi Okereke , were arrested in Obikabia in Obingwa Local Government Area,
The trio was reportedly arrested following a distress call from a resident of the
area.
Mr Oyebade revealed that they were arrested while allegedly vandalising an
electricity transformer belonging to the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company.
“My men moved in and arrested the three suspects but two escaped," he said.
He added that the police are currently on the trail of two others suspects who are
on the run.
Mr Oyebade also revealed the arrest of one Joseph Godwin , residing at Ogwo Road,
off Ohanku Road, Aba, for allegedly killing his neighbour identified as, Joel Effiong,
a businessman in Aba on August 31.
According to him, all the suspects who are currently in police custody will be
charged to court at the end of the ongoing investigations.
Amongst those also arrested are Ugorji Uche and Okoronkwo Chibuike , natives of
Atani in Arochukwu, for the alleged theft of a Mitsubishi L300 bus with Reg. No.
ATN 607 ZK.
He disclosed that the vehicle belonged to one Jeremiah Igwe of Obosi in Anambra
state to which they have been transferred for further action.
Mr Oyebade went on to express his excitement over the work of his men, going on
to commend the residents of the area for their assistance with useful information.

He also promised that the command would not rest until crime and criminality
have been “reduced to the barest minimum in the state’’.
“This is the reason my men have been working round the clock to checkmate the
activities of criminals in the state,” Oyebade said.
Recovered items from the apprehended suspects include different kinds of arms
and ammunition, electronic gadgets such as plasma television sets, tricycles and
what is suspected to be Indian hemp.
