TREDING:IPOB calls for release of Nnamdi Kanu

– IPOB claims that President Buhari release Kabiru Sokoto while Nnamdi Kanu
was still in detention
– The group claimed several of its members had been killed by the police
– A delta group insisted they were not part of Biafra as they were not
consulted

The Indigenous People Of Biafra (IPOB) has lamented the continued detention of
Nnamdi Kanu by security operatives.
The leader of IPOB was arrested at an airport in Lagos in October 2015 and has
been in detention since then.
Guardian reports that the pro-Biafra group claimed that Kabiru Umar, popularly
known as Kabiru Sokoto, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for mass
murder in 2013 has been released by President Muhammadu Buhari while Kanu
was still in detention.
In a statement released by the spokespersons of the group, Emma Nmezu and
Dr. Clifford Chukwuemeka Ironya, IPOB claimed most of its members arrested
were either injured or dead.

“Now, President Muhammadu Buhari has used his presidential powers and
authority to release Kabiru Sokoto, the terrorist and mass murderer.
“On the other hand, Kanu, our leader was abducted in Lagos by agents of
Department of State Services (DSS) on October 14, 2015, arraigned at the
Magistrate’s Court and later at the High Court on frivolous charges.
“On both occasions, the presiding magistrate and judge struck out the cases and
ordered that Mr. Kanu be released unconditionally. Up to this moment, those
court orders have not been obeyed and challenged by the DSS.
“What is the rationale behind Buhari’s preference for the freedom of a terrorist
and mass murderer over compliance with the rulings of courts of competent
jurisdictions?”
AS IPOB is pressing for secession a group, Summit Club of Asaba, dissociated
the people of Delta from the agitation for an independent state.
In a statement by Prof. Fidelis Njokanma and Chinedu Onyia who re the
president and secretary of the group respectively, it insisted that it was not
interested in leaving Nigeria.
The group said Asaba was not consulted in the agitation for Biafra and also
condemned the approach of pro-Biafra groups.
It called on the Delta state government to employ security reports to take
decisive action against move for secession so as to deal decisively with any
future occurrences.
